Careers: You and WE

Account Coordinator

This is the entry-level position aimed at individuals who are either right out of school or have less than two years of experience in communications.

As an account coordinator for Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, you are an integral part of an account team focused on providing PR support for innovative projects, products or clients. You will learn the basics of media relations and begin building relationships with many of the hundreds of trade editors by learning about their publications, readership and industries. You will proactively and reactively deal with trade editors' requests for everything from beta software to interviews. In time, you will instinctively learn their needs. You’ll also handle the logistics of client press tours, editorial visits, trade-show support and conference calls, including creating client briefings.

To drive client editorial coverage, you will create and manage editorial calendars, establish speaker bureaus, and research and track client media opportunities. Occasionally you will draft media materials and negotiate quotes from influentials for press materials and events.

As part of a dynamic client team, you will learn your client's business, gain increasingly sophisticated knowledge of your client's industry, help manage client projects and programs, learn the basics of your team's client strategies, give input to client PR plans, and brainstorm with your teammates about solutions to client problems. Invariably, you will prepare clipping analysis and prepare monthly client status reports.

Of course, such an essential position requires excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, multitasking abilities and initiative - not to mention the ability to write great e-mail. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (or similar tools) and an understanding of online services and the Internet are also preferred
